Christopher Chavez, 26, Dies After Hit-and-run Crash near Bristol St and Central Ave
SANTA ANA, California (April 21, 2016) – A man was killed after being struck by a hit and run driver near Bristol Street and Central Avenue early Wednesday, according to KTLA.
The victim was identified as 26-year-old Christopher Chavez, a drum line instructor at Saddleback High School.
The accident happened at around 2:00 a.m. near Denny’s restaurant.
Preliminary report stated that Chavez attempted to cross the street towards Denny’s when he was suddenly hit by an oncoming car driven by 36-year-old Tracy Clapp, of Santa Ana.
Clapp did not stop upon collision to offer help to the victim, prompting the police to raise a hit and run call.
The force from the impact was significant, leaving Chavez sustaining major injuries. He was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility where he was listed in critical condition.
He was declared brain dead just over a week later.
Clapp was located Saturday, May 28, in the city and led officers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle and on foot, causing a physical altercation. She was taken into custody and was expected to be booked within the next 48 hours on charges of felony hit and run, vehicular manslaughter, felony reckless evading of police, and battery on a police officer.
