James Stewart, 18, Killed After Truck Accident in Coalinga on I-5 Freeway
COALINGA, California (May 6, 2016) — James Stewart was killed following a multi-vehicle collision on the northbound Interstate 5 freeway, according to an article by Hanford Sentinel.
The crash took place on May 6 at about 11 a.m.
As per the article, the mishap involved a 2009 Freightliner truck, a 2013 Freightliner truck-trailer, a 2014 Nissan Frontier, a Mercedes S550, and a 2008 Toyota Prius.
The wreck began when a 2009 truck failed to stop as it approached traffic on North Highway 198.
The truck driver veered to the left of the road to avoid collision but eventually crashed into two stopped vehicles, a Nissan and a Mercedes.
The force led the Nissan into the back of a Toyota. The impact pushed the Toyota down a steep embankment, as mentioned in the article.
The motion only came at rest when the Nissan was further pushed, hitting a 2013 truck.
The tragic incident claimed the life of 18-year-old Nissan driver, Stewart, of Ridgecrest.
Another Nissan occupant, a 17-year-old girl, suffered severe injuries after the wreck. She was rescued and transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The Toyota driver was also hospitalized for sustained moderate injuries.
No immediate information was provided on the other parties involved.
