Rider Will Likely Undergo Leg Amputation
OCEANSIDE, California (May 14, 2016) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a DUI hit-and-run crash on Friday in the area of Freeman Street and Surfrider Way, as per UT San Diego. (map)
The collision took place about 4:30 p.m.
According to Oceanside police, the motorcycle rider was going east on Surfrider Way when at the same time a vehicle was traveling north on Freeman Street.
The 48-year-old driver then ran a red light and struck the motorcyclist.
As per the article, the rider was taken to a hospital with a serious leg injury that would possibly require an amputation.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist involved did not stop and fled the area. The suspect was last seen in traffic on south 5 Freeway at Del Mar Heights Road about 5:15 p.m.
The driver was then arrested and was booked into jail on charges including driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance, and causing serious injury in a hit-and-run crash.
