SAN CLEMENTE: Pit Bull Dog Bites Boy, 12, on Skateboard, Dad Shoots Animal
SAN CLEMENTE, California (May 18, 2016) — A 12-year-old boy riding a skateboard was bitten Sunday night by a neighbor’s pit bull dog and then threatened to attack the boy’s sister before it was shot by their father who is an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy, according to the Orange County Register.
The off-duty police officers told authorities his family was in their driveway about to take a bike ride at 6:20 p.m. when his neighbor’s dog charged at his son and bit his arm. The animal was about to go after his daughter riding on the back of her father’s bicycle when the deputy shot it.
The Orange County Fire Authority sent paramedics to the scene of the attack and treated the boy for his injuries, but he was not transported to hospital by them.
The dog was taken to a veterinarian, but had to be euthanized due to its injuries. The owner of the dog is a California Highway Patrol officer. The incident was listed as an accident and no charges are pending.
“Hopefully this child gets the care necessary for a full recovery,” said Attorney James Johnson, a personal injury attorney who handles dog bite cases.
