Armando Murillo, 28, Victim in Vernon Fatal Hit-and-Run at 37th Street and Santa Fe
VERNON, California (April 30, 2016) –– A 28-year-old Pacoima man identified as Armando Murillo was killed early Saturday morning when a semi-truck allegedly ran a red light and collided with a vehicle at 37th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, according to an ABC New 7 report.
The Chevrolet pickup truck crashed underneath the trailer of the big rig and became wedged underneath it, killing Murillo, who was a passenger at the time, and critically injuring the man driving the vehicle. The big rig truck driver unhitched the trailer and fled the scene in the cab of the truck.
Firefighters had to cut open the vehicle to extricate the two men who were trapped inside following the crash. The injured driver was rushed to USC Medical Center and is expected to survive.
The crash took place at 3:10 a.m. this morning. Police are now searching for the hit-and-run driver who fled the scene after the victims were drug along behind the truck for several feet. The larger truck had reportedly been fleeing another crash at the time of this one.
Police are searching for Guillermo Ortiz Jr., who is a person of interest and may have information about the crash.
