WEST HOLLYWOOD: Roughly 500,000 Expected for Halloween Carnival

pumpkingsWEST HOLLYWOOD, California (October 30, 2016) — It’s considered the world’s largest Halloween party with roughly 500,000 people expected to turn out Monday night to celebrate on Santa Monica Boulevard.

The celebration is scheduled to begin about 6 p.m. tomorrow night and end by 11 p.m., but typically the party continues as many of the revelers span out into local bars, restaurants and private parties.  The event takes place between Doheny Drive and La
Cienega Boulevard in West Hollywood.

While this is meant to be a fun celebration, whenever you have half a million people traveling to one event there is likely to be traffic and collisions, said Attorney James Johnson.

“I advise everyone planning to attend this event to get there early and arrange a safe way home or find somewhere local to spend the night to avoid drunken driving and congested roadways,” Johnson said.

Pedestrians are also at risk in this area with some many people on the streets. Halloween night is the most dangerous for pedestrians and it’s not only children who are at greatest risk, but anyone who is not paying attention.

This year’s Halloween carnival has a disco theme so expect a trip back to the 1970s complete with platform shoes and bell-bottom jeans. Most attendees think up over-the-top, original costumes as they try to outdo one another year after year at this boisterous event.

The event began in 1987 and has evolved into an annual mecca for those who love Halloween. This year the actor/singer Darren Criss (“Glee”) will be crowned King of the carnival at a 9 p.m. ceremony at the event’s main stage.  In keeping with the disco theme, there will be a total of five stages with DJ’s spinning disco hits and 80’s female pop icons will be portrayed in drag.

The event planners are asking attendees to share their costumes on social media with the hashtag #wehohalloween and photo stations will be located at the event. Visit www.facebook.com/wehocarnaval for more information or call (323) 848-6503.
