1 Dead, 3 Hurt in Angeles Crest Highway Crash Near La Canada Flintridge

Driver Killed; 3 Passengers Rescued in Over the Side Crash

LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE, Calif. (August 8, 2026) – A young man died and his three passengers were injured after a vehicle veered off Angeles Crest Highway and plunged hundreds of feet down the mountainside near La Cañada Flintridge.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, August 5th, around 10:10 p.m. near mile marker 26-50, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the crash that left the vehicle heavily damaged down the steep embankment.

Los Angeles County Fire Department and Montrose Search and Rescue teams responded and conducted a low-angle rope operations rescue to reach the passengers and driver of the vehicle. At least one person was rescued using the Jaws of Life, and all four were brought up from the wreckage in a rescue basket, authorities said.

Sadly, the driver of the vehicle, a man believed to be in his early 20s died at the scene. The other occupants were two women and one man who are also in their early 20s. The passengers were taken to hospitals with moderate to serious injuries.
