14-Year-Old Girl Dead, 2 Flown with Critical Injuries
The collision occurred at 11:23 a.m. on Villaverde Drive, north of the high school and about 100 yards from the entry to Friendly Hills Country Club.
As per the article, a 14-year-old girl identified as Ivette Macias was ejected after the SUV she was in crashed and overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Macias was confirmed to have been a student at La Serna High School student.
The SUV was reportedly occupied by five La Serna High School students and was being driven by Daniel Vasquez, 19.
Police told Whittier Daily News two males and four females were inside the SUV. Two occupants were critically injured and were airlifted to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
Three others were also transported to hospitals with unspecified injuries.
Authorities have arrested Vasquez on suspicion of a DUI and vehicular manslaughter, where he remains jailed.
Speed also appears to have played a role in the incident which remains under investigation.
