OAKLAND, Calif. (July 14, 2023) — A multi-vehicle crash in Oakland on the southbound Interstate 880 Freeway Friday morning involved roughly 10 vehicles.
The pile-up crash occurred around 3:42 a.m. on July 14th, near the 66th Avenue on ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
The collision took place near the on ramp in an area where a fatal crash occurred at 1:44 a.m. the same morning. Three southbound lanes were closed due to the first collision.
The second collision involved major injuries and resulted after one vehicle crashed into a white minivan in the fast lane and set off a chain-reaction crash with eight other motorists. At least two of the vehicles had major damage from the collision.
Paramedics responded and located a male who was unconscious, but breathing. At least one person was transported to Highland Hospital and three of the vehicles were removed by tow trucks.
An investigation into the multi-vehicle pileup is underway by the CHP.
