3 Semi-Trucks, 15 Cars Collide on Modesto Bridge
MODESTO, Calif. (Dec. 13, 2023) — Eighteen vehicles including three semi-trucks were involved in a pile-up crash amid heavy fog on the Mitchell Road Bridge early Wednesday near Finch Road in Modesto.
The multi-vehicle crash involving 15 cars and three trucks occurred just after 5 a.m. on Dec. 13th, according to the Modesto Fire Department and CBS News.
The Modesto Fire Department responded to the Mitchell Road Bridge where they determined several collisions between the vehicles had occurred. Images from the crash scene show cars and trucks jumbled together on top of one another.
Meanwhile, fire officials classified the collision as a multiple casualty incident, but fortunately all the injuries were considered to be minor.
Furthermore, roughly 100 to 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway and required mitigatation from the Department of Environmental Resources.
Authorities closed down the bridge for several hours to remove vehicles and conduct an investigation that could extend to about 10 a.m.
The causes of the crash on the Mitchell Road Bridge will be determined.
