MECCA, California (April 7, 2016) — An injury collision turned fatal Thursday afternoon following a collision involving three vehicles at Johnson Street and 62nd Avenue, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The 12:18 p.m. crash was blocking the roadway as two people were trapped inside their vehicles.
The vehicles involved included a Chevrolet Utility truck with a mulch spreader attached, a Ford F-150 pickup truck and a third vehicle.
The California Department of Fire sent help to the scene and two people were transported to a Desert Regional Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Per the Riverside County Coroner, one of the victims later succumbed to their injuries at Desert Regional Medical Center. The victim was identified as Leopoldo Botello Corona, 21, of Thermal.
Police are investigating liability for the accident and will report on their findings.
