2 Killed in McLaren Crash in Irvine on Culver Drive

IRVINE, Calif. (Sept. 14, 2026) — Two people died early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash involving a McLaren sports car at Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue in Irvine.
One of the occupants who died was James Wehr, 27, co-founder of South OC Cars & Coffee, a weekly car show in San Clemente featuring performance and muscle cars.
The violent crash occurred around 12:18 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13th, according to the Irvine Police Department.
The Irvine Police Department and Orange County Fire Authority responded to the collision and fire, but both people died inside the vehicle.
Detectives working on the case determined the driver was stopped at a red light, but when it turned green they sped up and lost control before hitting a curb and then slamming into a tree. The vehicle also erupted in flames after the car was split in two, police said.
