Fatal Alleged DUI Crash 91 Freeway Leaves 2 Dead
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (August 20, 2018) — Two women died and a third person suffered major injuries in a collision with a wrong-way driver suspected of DUI on the 91 Freeway, according to KTLA news.
About 1:47 a.m., a 911 call was made to police reporting the wrong way driver was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the 91 Riverside freeway.
The California Highway Patrol was on its way to the location, but roughly three minutes after it was reported the two vehicles collided head-on near Central Avenue. The driver and two passengers in the car hit by the drunken driver were all badly injured. The female driver and female passenger both died at the scene and a male passenger was hospitalized with major injuries.
The suspected drunken driver was arrested by police at the scene.
Police advised motorists to avoid the left lanes when traveling at night due to the potential for wrong-way drivers.
DUI Accident Investigation
At this time, police have determined that the driver who was traveling the wrong-way on the freeway was drunk and is responsible for the deaths and injuries caused in this collision.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the two women who died and prayers to the passenger who was injured.
In a case such as this one, there could also be more than one entity responsible for this collision including an employer if the driver was working at the time of the crash, an auto manufacturer or a government entity. A qualified attorney would conduct a full investigation into the circumstances and ensure all responsible parties are identified.
