Sol Spin Ride at Knotts Berry Farm Stops in Mid-Air
BUENA PARK, Calif. (Nov. 19, 2024) — Twenty-two people were stuck aboard the Sol Spin thrill ride at Knotts Berry Farm on Monday in Buena Park.
The amusement park guests were riding on Sol Spin around 2 p.m. on Nov. 18th when the ride when mid-way through the cycle it came to an abrupt stop due to technical difficulties, according to Knott’s Berry Farm officials.
The ride is one of the park’s most thrilling with a Double Black Diamond rating.
The guests were stranded sideways or at an angle in the air on the 65-foot tall ride for more than two hours until Orange County Fire Authority crews were able to rescue them and bring them to safety. They were all safely on the ground by 4:30 p.m. and only two females were taken to a hospital as a precaution. Others were rolled away in wheelchairs and some were limping.
It’s unknown if riders experienced any soft-tissue injuries such as neck or back pain following the ride malfunction, but many likely were traumatized by the incident.
Netherlands-based Mondial Rides manufactured the ride and it opened in Buena Park at Knotts Berry Farm in 2017.
