3-Vehicle Collision Near West Centre Street
SHANDON, Calif. (July 29, 2024) — Three people are dead after a wrong-way driver crashed head-on into another motorist Sunday on State Route 46, near West Centre Street in Shandon.
Three others were injured in the deadly crash involving three vehicles at around 10:28 p.m. on July 28th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Saundra Foutz, 30, of Paso Robles, was driving a 2021 Mercedes westbound in an eastbound lane of Highway 46 before colliding head-on with an eastbound 2022 Honda, according to news reports. Next, a second Honda, which was traveling behind the first one, crashed into the 2022 Honda.
Three of the four people in the 2022 Honda were killed including its 24-year-old female driver from Cutler and two passengers, a 32-year-old Sanger woman and a 27-year-old Reedley man.
The sole survivor from the Honda was Carlos Quinonez, 28, of Orange Cove. Paramedics transported him to Sierra Vista Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
Meanwhile, Saundra Foutz survived with major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
Jess Lopez, 38, of Bakersfield, who was driving the second Honda, survived with minor injuries and was treated only on scene.
Investigators determined that alcohol and or drugs were not a factor in the deadly Shandon crash on Highway 46.
The case remains under investigation.
