3 Injured in Crash Involving Truck on I-5 Freeway in Mission Hills

Semi-Truck Hangs Over Edge of Freeway Near Washington Street

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2026) — Three people were injured Tuesday morning following a crash involving a semi-truck and two other vehicles on the northbound I-5 Freeway in Mission Hills.

The multi-vehicle collision involved a semi-truck that crashed into the center divider and was left dangling over the edge, just north of Washington Street.

The collision, which caused hours-long traffic delays in both directions of the freeway, happened around 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 20th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

There was also a fuel spill and fire from the truck, debris in traffic lanes, and the extensive cleanup wasn’t completely cleared until around 6:30 p.m.

Paramedics responded and rushed three people to hospitals in unknown condition.

Authorities are investigating what caused the crash and will determine fault.

The truck company bears responsibility for the hazmat cleanup, the CHP said.
