A total of six young people, five from Pasadena and one from Monrovia, were riding together in the westbound 2018 Tesla Model 3. The car, driven by Moheb Samuel, was allegedly traveling at around 100 mph at the time of the 3 a.m. crash on May 11th, 2024, according to KTLA 5 News.
Three of the passengers including the driver’s sister, Emily Samuel, 17, Emerson Newquist, 20, and 18-year-old Bella Ramirez, were all critically injured and taken to a hospital. They are all expected to survive.
There is a GoFundMe for the families of all of the victims. Also, there are individual fundraisers currently for Pfiefer and Newquist.
Authorities say four of the passengers were in the backseat and only one was wearing a seatbelt. The Pasadena Police Department reports three of the four backseat passengers were ejected and one of them was Stefan Pfeiffer who died following the crash.
It’s unknown at this time if Tesla’s autopilot was engaged at the time of the collision, but investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
Two of the crash survivors are current students at Maranatha High School and who died was a former student.
Stefan Pfeiffer was a Pasadena City College student and an Eagle Scout, a report by Channel 7 news said.
The collision knocked out power to 663 residents and businesses in the area, but by 4 p.m. the same day all power was restored.
Meanwhile, the building sustained major damage and was yellow tagged following the collision.
Investigators are working to determine if alcohol was a factor in the collision.
