Capsized Boat Off Catalina Island Kills 3 Men, Injures 4 Others

The U.S. Coast Guard Los Angeles-Long Beach center received a report about the incident around 9:30 a.m.
As per the article, a 15-foot skiff with seven men aboard overturned near Salta Verde Point on the backside of the island. Los Angeles County Fire Department said the small boat appeared to be capsized after being hit by four to six feet high waves.
Baywatch officials responded and recovered three deceased people from the water. They were identified in ABC 10 News as 47-year-old Los Angeles resident Kyung Hwam Kim, 62-year-old Buena Park resident Jason Jung Noh, and 64-year-old Young Joon Park, also of Los Angeles.
KTLA added that two boaters were then rescued by Good Samaritans on a fishing boat in the area, while another man was seen on the rocks and was saved by a Coast Guard helicopter. A fourth man reportedly made it safely to shore.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department affirmed that all four survivors were transported to local hospitals on the mainland. Two were in fair condition while the other two were in critical condition.
The men riding the boat at the time were over 40. Their names were not disclosed.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
