3 Killed in Crash Off Cliff on Highway 9, Redwood Gulch Road in Saratoga
SAN JOSE, Calif., (June 23, 2026) — Three men died in a collision on Highway 9 near Redwood Gulch Road late Tuesday night in the Santa Cruz mountains of Saratoga, west of San Jose.
The incident unfolded on June 22nd at approximately 9:36 p.m. when a 21-year-old Yuba City man driving a brown 2024 BMW M3 lost control and went off a steep embankment. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs indicate the vehicle overturned onto its side down the mountain on westbound State Route 9, just east of Redwood Gulch.
Emergency response teams, including the Santa Clara County Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene where a group of family members had gathered near Saratoga Springs seeking information. The road was closed temporarily as rescuers worked to access the vehicle, which was reported to be situated 300 feet down an embankment.
Tragically, all three men reportedly died in the collision, including the 21-year-old driver, a 27-year-old man from Salem, Oregon, and a 17-year-old boy from San Jose, according to an NBC News report.
