SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2024) — Three people were killed and at least four others were injured in head-on crash Saturday morning on Highway 99 in Sutter County.
It happened at around 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 28th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The three who died have been identified by the Sutter County Coroner as Ricardo Joso Soto Castro, 48, and his brother, Juan Diego Soto Castro, 43, both of Yuba City, and Shane Loudermilk, 20, of Gridley, Fox 40 News.
Deadly Collision on Highway 99 in Sutter County
Authorities report that Shane Loudermilk was driving southbound on Highway 99 in a 2015 Dodge Challenger and was just north of State Route 113 when he crossed into the northbound lanes.
The Dodge sedan crashed head-on into the front of a 2010 Nissan Sentra occupied by its driver, Ricardo Joso and a passenger, Juan Diego Soto Castro.
Both drivers and the one passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, several passengers traveling in the Dodge suffered injuries.
4 Injured in Head-on Crash on Highway 99
Paramedics responded to help the injured including a 21-year-old woman, two 18-year-old men, and a 16-year-old boy, and all, but one of them were taken to Adventist Health or Rideout Hospital for minor and major injuries, the report said.
One person was later transferred to UC Davis Medical Center for further treatment.
Finally, there is a Gofundme created to help cover funeral costs for the two men in the Nissan.
The driver is survived by his wife and five young children and the passenger was also married with two young children.
Investigators are working on the case and preliminary indications are that drugs and or alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
