Motorcycle, Pedestrian, Pickup Truck Crash on Highway 111 in La Quinta
LA QUINTA, Calif. (May 15, 2024) — A man and two women died Tuesday night in a multi-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck, a motorcycle and two pedestrians on Highway 111 in La Quinta.
The traffic accident occurred at around 9:20 p.m. on May 14th, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
The driver of a white Chevrolet pickup truck, a motorcycle and two pedestrians were involved in the collision. Two motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Highway 111 when one of them hit a pedestrian who was crossing the highway.
The motorcyclist was thrown off the bike into the westbound traffic lanes where he was hit by the oncoming pickup truck. The pickup then veered into the median and struck two pedestrians who were helping the injured motorcycle rider.
Three people including the motorcycle rider, the pedestrian and a bystander who was helping them, all died in the crash.
The Riverside Sheriff’s Department sent deputies from its Thermal Station to the crash scene to help those involved and paramedics pronounced all three people dead at the scene.
The coroner later identified the deceased as Maria Reyes, 33, of La Quinta, Katherine Vogts, 47, of Palm Desert, and Brandt Celli, 26, of Indio.
Meanwhile, a fourth person was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.
Finally, investigators from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station’s La Quinta Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team are working on the case.
