Driver Tried to Pass Big Rig Truck, Crashes into Car Killing 4
BUTTONWILLOW, California (Oct. 27, 2017) — Kelly Ruth Herrington, 30, of San Jose, Sabrina April Monges, 28, of Fremont and Danny Delfino, 64, have been identified as three out of four killed in a head-on crash. A 30-year-old man from Sunnyvale is the fourth victim, but he has not been identified yet.
The four people died in a two-vehicle head-on crash Thursday night at 7th Standard Road, between Tracy Avenue and Brandt, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The fatal crash took place about 8:55 p.m. last night between a white 4-door Chevrolet pickup truck and a Nissan Altima sedan, the CHP report said.
The pickup was reportedly trying to pass a big rig truck when the vehicle crashed head-on into a sedan. The report stated that three people who were in the Nissan were all killed. The victims in the sedan were all from the San Jose area.
The pickup truck became engulfed in flames its driver identified as Danny Delfino, 64, of Buttonwillow was pinned inside. A woman identified as 32-year-old Megan Matthews was transferred to a burn center in Fresno for treatment of major injuries. A dog in Delfino’s truck was also killed.
Traffic Accident Investigation
Police are going over the facts of this case and will piece together all the evidence in an effort to solve liability. There are many unanswered questions including whether the drivers were traveling within speed limits or if someone went through a posted stop sign.
