The attacks took place about 6 p.m. when the two dogs encountered several people walking on Simpson Lane, just east of Marysville.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release that the female dog was the mother of 11 puppies and that both of the animals involved in the attack will be euthanized.
Palmer, one of the people bitten, is the owner of the female dog and Mandy Sanchez, 30, owned the male dog and both are thought to be transients. The male dog had a prior bite recorded in Yuba County, officials said.
The Yuba County Animal Control managed to capture and detain the two dogs at the scene as well as take the 11 puppies into an animal care facility.
The animal control has investigated 103 dog bite complaints this year to date. Just one year ago, a 9-year-old boy was killed when he was mauled by three pit bull dogs in Yuba. Tyler Trammell-Huston was left alone with the animals by his older adult half-sister. The child was living with an Elk Grove family and was in the foster care system.
The owners of the dogs may voluntarily give up the animals to the county so they may be euthanized or be designated as “vicious” by a judge and then put down. They will be tested for rabies after they are euthanized.
