SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 9, 2023) — A woman and three children were critically injured Monday in a car crash near 100 East 111th Place in south Los Angeles. A teenage boy and toddler later died at the hospital.
The two-vehicle traffic accident occurred about 7:56 a.m. on Jan. 9th in front of the Holy Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The LAFD sent paramedics and firefighters to help those involved. Upon arrival to the crash scene, firefighters began working to free all four people trapped in the wreckage. The occupants critically hurt were an 18-month-old toddler, a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl as well as a 35-year-old woman. The teenage boy was listed in grave condition and later died at the hospital. The Los Angeles coroner identified the teenager as Christopher Amaya-Pineda, 13. His younger brother, Damian Amaya-Pineda, 18 months, died on Monday, Jan. 16th.
Also, there are no further details about what led up to the car crash at East 111th Place.
Investigators are piecing together what happened and will determine fault for the South Los Angeles crash.
