4 Killed in Crash at Road 9 and Avenue 21 in Madera County
Pickup Truck, Honda CR-V Crash In Madera County
MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 4, 2026) — Four people were killed on Wednesday when a pickup truck crashed into their car at Road 9 and Avenue 21 in Madera County.
Those who died have been identified as: Pedro Chavez Garcia, 32, and his son, Pedro Chavez, 14, as well as Gerardo Ramirez Aguilar, 36, and Cayetano Beyza-Mendoza, 52, all from Merced County.
The deadly collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police responded to the collision between two people in a black 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck and five people in a white 2022 Honda CR-V. Detectives determined the eastbound pickup truck traveling on Avenue 21 failed to stop when it reached the intersection with Road 9. The truck drove into the left side of the oncoming Honda as it was traveling northbound on Road 9. Authorities say there are no stop signs for traffic on Road 9 and the Honda had the right-of-way.
Both vehicles overturned onto their sides and came to a rest beside each other.
Paramedics responded and confirmed the deaths of four people who were in the Honda, and a fifth person was airlifted to a hospital with unknown injuries.
It’s unknown at this time if anyone from the GMC pickup truck was injured in the crash.
The investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing and authorities did not mention if drugs and/or alcohol were factors.
