SAN DIEGO COUNTY, California (July 8, 2016) — One person died and others were injured early Friday morning after a Jeep overturned in an off-roading collision into a ditch near Monument Peak Road and the Laguna Indian Reservation, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The crash took place about 3:23 a.m. this morning. The Jeep reportedly overturned and landed on its wheels. Two people were injured in the crash. One person had broken arms after the vehicle rolled on him and crashed his chest causing shortness of breath, the report said. The other was ejected in the crash and unconscious, the respondent told CHP officers.
It appears the vehicle may have been off road at the time of the crash. The caller called 911 and was attempting to guide emergency personnel to the location of the crash. Police were told to follow the train tracks that would lead them to a hill where there was a bridge. The car was in a riverbed adjacent to the hill.
The caller’s cell phone kept disconnecting during the 911 call, but paramedics and police eventually located the vehicle. Sadly, one of the two people who were injured had already died.
There were reportedly seven other people involved in the crash, but no specific details about whether other vehicles were. At least one person was airlifted from the scene of the crash by helicopter.
The collision is under investigation by police to determine liability.
