CHP Crackdown Results in Nearly 10,000 Citations
CALIFORNIA — The California Highway Patrol made 481 DUI arrests over the New Year’s holiday between Dec. 31st, 2024 and Jan. 1st, 2025.
They conducted a 30-hour maximum enforcement period with patrols throughout the state to find and arrest impaired or reckless drivers. There were 14,437 actions taken by CHP law enforcement officers during that time.
The arrests for impaired driving included motorists who consumed alcohol or took drugs, medication, or recreational marijuana.
The CHP also handed out 9,951 citations to drivers across California for speeding, seatbelt violations, and other traffic infractions.
Authorities did not provide the death toll over the New Year’s holiday or the number of people injured in collisions.
