KOREATOWN, California (Feb. 21, 2017) –Five people were injured Monday night in a collision involving two motorists at 1599 West Pico Boulevard, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 8:57 p.m. last night between a vehicle occupied by a family of four including a baby and a second vehicle whose driver was arrested for drunken driving. The family’s vehicle crashed into a planter in front of a fast food restaurant, police said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to help the victims at the scene. The Jaws of Life were used to extricate two patients. Those hurt included a 9-month-old baby who had a bump on his forehead and scrapes and a 17-year-old boy and the parents of the children had complaints of pain and bumps and bruises.
The woman driving the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division is heading up the investigation into the crash. The two drivers each blamed the other for the crash saying they ran the red traffic light.
Liability for Collisions
Police have a duty to investigate a collision involving injuries to determine liability. In this case, we have a driver who is suspected of drunken driving and one of the drivers may have ran through a red traffic light as well. Witnesses to the crash will help police determine liability when there are conflicting stories about what happened, but also video footage and evidence will help them find the truth.
