6 Children Hit and Injured by Car at Del Mar Elementary School on Boquita Drive

3 Children Seriously Hurt, 3 Others Sustain Minor Injuries

children hit by car del mar elementary schoolDEL MAR, California (May 13. 2016) – Six children were injured, three seriously, after being struck by an elderly driver in front of an elementary school on Friday, according to UT San Diego.

The collision occurred in the pick-up parking area of Del Mar Heights Elementary School on Boquita Drive about 2:35 p.m.

As per the article, San Diego police said the 70-year-old woman was backing up her Honda sedan into a parking spot when she slammed into another vehicle. The motorist reportedly panicked and stepped on the gas, jumping a curb and hitting the children.

San Diego Fire-Rescue affirmed that three of the young victims were badly hurt, including a 5-year-old with a broken femur. Three others sustained minor injuries.

All six patients were transported to the hospital with wounds described as non-life-threatening.

Meanwhile, UT San Diego added a person running to help the children involved fell and was treated at the school for minor scrapes. The 70-year-old woman and a child in the Honda also were treated at the scene.
