6 Injured in Alleged Hit-and-run Crash on 210 Freeway in Irwindale
Driver Hits Motorcycle, Causes Chain-Reaction Involving 5 More Riders and 1 Sedan
IRWINDALE, California (April 17, 2016) – Six were injured, two critically, after a hit-and-run driver allegedly, intentionally struck a motorcycle on 210 Freeway Saturday evening, according to The Los Angeles Times. (map)
The incident took place about 7 p.m., just west of Irwindale Avenue.
As per the article, an initial investigation conducted by CHP indicated that six motorcycles were going west at 65 mph in the No. 1 lane when a black pickup truck drifted across the freeway from the No. 4 lane.
The pickup then hit one of the motorcyclists, prompting a chain reaction with the other five riders.
CHP said at least two of the motorcycles subsequently collided with a BMW traveling in the carpool lane.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the county fire department affirmed that a total of six people were hurt in the collision. Four victims were transported to hospitals, including two who were listed in critical condition.
The other two patients reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, CHP believed that the pickup driver appeared to have intentionally slammed into the motorcycles. The motorist fled the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation by police.
