2 Pilots, 4 Passengers Killed in Airplane Crash
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (July 10, 2023) — Six people died in a small plane crash Saturday morning at French Valley Airport in Murrieta.
The deadly collision occurred amid heavy fog and low visibility in the area around 4:15 a.m. on July 8th, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The victims aboard the business jet included both of the pilots, Riese Lenders, 25, of Rancho Palos Verdes and Manuel Vargas-Regalado, 32, of Temecula.
The passengers who died were Abigail Tellez-Vargas, 33, the wife of Manuel Vargas-Regalado, Ibrahem Razick, 46, and Alma Razick, 51, both of Temecula and Lindsey Gleiche, 31, of Huntington Beach.
Prior to the collision, the pilot informed air traffic control that the aircraft would perform a “missed approach” after he was unable to see the runway due to weather conditions, according to the National Transportation Safety Board and KTLA. It crashed on the second approach roughly 500 feet from the asphalt runway. The plane became engulfed in flames.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
The deadly crash is the second at French Valley Airport in one week. A pilot in a small plane died when his plane crashed just after takeoff from the runway.
