8-Vehicle Stockton Crash on Interstate 5 at March Lane; Truck Overturned

Major Injury Crash on Freeway in Stockton; Watermelons Spill from Truck

STOCKTON, Calif., (Sept. 17, 2026) — A crash involving eight vehicles and major injuries happened Thursday on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway near the March Lane off-ramp in Stockton. The incident occurred at approximately 5:19 p.m. on September 17, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision involved a semi-truck loaded with 70,000 pounds of watermelons that overturned, alongside several other vehicles. Witnesses at the scene reported that one of the vehicles may have cut off the semi-truck, leading to the crash. The semi-truck and its trailer were found on their sides, with gasoline pouring out, creating additional hazards.

Emergency responders, including Stockton Fire Department’s Medic 28, were dispatched to the scene to provide medical assistance. One person with major injuries and two with minor injuries were taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, several vehicles sustained major damage, and lanes 3, 4, and 5 were blocked, prompting the issuance of a SigAlert and the closure of affected lanes for extrication and cleanup efforts.

The accident remains under investigation by the authorities, who are urging any witnesses to come forward with information that might assist in determining the exact cause of the collision.
