8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Illegal Fireworks Explosion in Buena Park

Child Hit by Fireworks Explosion on Cornflower Circle in Buena Park
BUENA PARK, Calif. (July 5, 2025) — A Fourth of July celebration turned tragic when an 8-year-old girl died following a fireworks-related explosion in a Buena Park neighborhood, police confirmed Saturday.
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on the 8000 block of Cornflower Circle, where Buena Park police officers were patrolling during the holiday festivities. Officers reported seeing a large number of fireworks detonating in the area when a dangerous misfire occurred.
Deadly Fireworks Display in Neighborhood
According to investigators, a resident had placed a large illegal fireworks device in the street. When the display began malfunctioning, it launched projectiles toward a nearby home, igniting other fireworks that were stored in close proximity to a group of people — including the young girl.
Officers on scene witnessed the child’s family frantically carry her into a nearby home, prompting police to immediately begin life-saving measures. She was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center with critical injuries but was later pronounced dead. She was later identified as Jasmine Nguyen of Anaheim.
Police arrested the homeowner involved, and potential charges are now under review by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities have not released the child’s identity out of respect for her family, who are grieving this heartbreaking loss. The investigation is ongoing.
