MENDOCINO COUNTY, California (October 2, 2016) – Nine were injured, two seriously, in a DUI crash on Highway 1 near Point Arena Saturday night, according to The Press Democrat.
The 2-vehicle collision took place around 7:48 p.m., just north of Lighthouse Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 71-year-old William Mladenka was driving a2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup when he suddenly crossed the double yellow line on a northbound curve of Highway 1.
The truck then went into the path of and collided head-on with a 2014 Honda Odyssey carrying visitors to Mendocino Coast.
William Mladenka, of Freeborn, Texas, was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries. His 68-year-old passenger, Kathleen Mladenka, was also seriously hurt and was flown to Ukiah Valley Medical Center for treatment.
CHP affirmed that the minivan driver, 66-year-old Fair Oaks resident Mary Kay Viglione, and her six other female occupants suffered minor injuries following the wreck.
Viglione was taken to Mendocino Coast District Hospital, along with Helen Cherie Mitchell, 70, of Hidden Valley Lake; Pamela Joy Miller, 67, of Sacramento; Christine Anne Lennon, 65, of El Dorado Hills; and Ruth Ann Halbrook, 61, of Carmichael.
Two other victims from the minivan, Sheryl Ruth Hurst-Carpenter, 62, of Rocklin, and Agnes B. Hobbs, 63, of Sacramento, were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial.
All parties involved were wearing safety belts at the time of the accident.
Meanwhile, CHP confirmed that Mladenka’s blood-alcohol level was determined to be at 0.15 percent, which is about twice the legal limit.
