Deadly Crash on US Highway 395

INDEPENDENCE, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2023) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened Friday on US Highway 395 (South Edward Street) at East Payne Street in Independence.

The collision occurred around 8:05 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15th in front of the Shell gas station, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials reported a driver struck the victim due to unknown circumstances.

Paramedics responded and began CPR while rushing the victim to a hospital, but unfortunately the person died on route or upon arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the involved motorist stopped to await police at the Shell gas station. Investigators are piecing together what happened to determine fault.

The case remains under investigation.
