Carlsbad Crash La Costa Avenue and El Camino Real; Woman Arrested

2 Injured, Driver Arrested DUI after Police Pursuit Crash in Carlsbad

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 12, 2023) — Two people were injured and a driver who led police on a pursuit was arrested on DUI charges after a Carlsbad crash Sunday night at La Costa Avenue and El Camino Real.

Three vehicles were involved in the collision just after 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 10th, according to a report by the Times of San Diego.

Prior to the collision, San Diego Sheriff’s deputies spotted a woman driving a black Toyota Corolla who was unable to stay in her lane in the Encinitas area. The 40-year-old woman failed to stop for police and entered the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway. She continued driving until she reached the Carlsbad area where police allegedly saw her drive through red lights and on the wrong side of the road.

Police determined it was dangerous to continue following her and called off the pursuit at La Costa Avenue. The driver continued traveling in an eastbound direction until she reportedly crashed into two other motorists when she reached El Camino Real, police said.

The suspect, Lindsey Roberts, 40, became trapped in her vehicle and was extricated by firefighters. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of possible broken bones and was later arrested on suspicion of felony evading and an outstanding felony arrest warrant she had.

Also, a 41-year-old man from one of the vehicles she hit was treated at the hospital for minor injuries, but the two 18-year-old men in the third vehicle were not injured.

Finally, there are no further details at this time and the case remains under investigation.
