Woman Riding Bicycle Struck, Killed in Colton
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (Dec. 21, 2023) — A 30-year-old Colton woman died Sunday night in a bicycle accident at East Washington Street and Santo Antonio Drive in Colton.
The fatal traffic accident occurred at around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The Colton Police Department responded to the scene after someone called 911 to report the collision as a pedestrian accident.
Unfortunately, the Colton woman sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene of the collision at 7:22 p.m., the report said.
An investigation is underway by the Colton Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) to determine fault.
The speed limit at the intersection is 35 mph and there are some painted bike lanes on East Washington Street, but there are none on Santo Antonio Drive. Also, traffic is controlled by stop signs in all directions and there are marked crosswalks on the pavement.
