One Dead, Two Injured in Collision Involving DUI Suspect
Bakersfield, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2024) — A fatal crash involving a suspected DUI driver left one person dead and two injured on White Lane and Hughes Lane in south Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Police Department reported the collision at around 11:08 p.m. on Feb. 9th, 2024, according to Bakersfield Now.
Authorities say police officers were in the area where a car meet was being held and looking out for reckless drivers.
Police officers reportedly followed a few of the vehicles from the meet and eventually saw an SUV and a white sedan were involved in a collision.
Paramedics responded and rushed three seriously injured adult females from the white sedan to a hospital, but the driver of the car died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police determined the man driving the SUV was driving under the influence. The motorist was taken to Kern County Jail and booked on charges of homicide, DUI causing great bodily injury, and DUI with three prior convictions. Police say the driver had those convictions over the past six years.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the fatal crash on White Lane.
