Motorcyclist Killed, Driver Arrested on DUI Charges
SANTA ANA, Calif. (April 17, 2024) — Flor Mecon Granados, 44, of Santa Ana, died Thursday in a motorcycle accident involving a suspected drunk driver at Bristol Street and Segerstrom Avenue in Santa Ana.
Mario Celestino Torres, 29, was driving northbound on Bristol Street in a 2024 Mazda. He allegedly rear-ended the Santa Ana man’s motorcycle around 3 a.m. on April 11th at the intersection, according to the Orange County Register.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Flor Mecon Grandos dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Mario Torres was arrested and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated as well as driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury. The charges include a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the motorcycle rider.
UPDATE ON JAN. 27, 2025:
Torres pleaded was sentenced on Monday to six years in prison after he plead guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
He agreed to a plea deal that included the dismissal of a felony charge for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury that included a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
At the time of his sentencing, Torres had 584 days credit for being in jail since his arrest.
