Victorville Tops List of Deadliest Death Rate in California
CALIFORNIA — Victorville isn’t the biggest city in California, but it has the highest rate of traffic deaths of all cities in the Golden State.
This is based on its rate of fatal crashes for every 10,000 residents recorded by federal safety officials in 2022.
The cities of San Bernardino, Colton, Hesperia, and Compton round out the top five cities in California based on their fatal 2022 crash rates, according to a report by the San Francisco Examiner based on stats compiled by Truck Parking Club.
Below are the numbers for the Top 5 California cities with the highest death rates.
Furthermore, many people assume that California has a higher rate of fatal collisions than other states, but they would be wrong.
In fact, California ranks 28th in the nation for fatal car accidents with 1.1 fatal crashes for every 10,000 residents, according to statistics from 2022.
That year there were 4,428 deaths from traffic accidents in the Golden State,
The report by Truck Parking Club was based on data drawn from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Based on this information, TPC ranked California cities with the highest accident rates and came up with a list of the deadliest cities as part of a larger national analysis.
Once again, these rankings are based on the rate of accidents for every 10,000 residents in the year 2022.
There were some cities that were tied, but this was broken by the total number of fatal accidents in some cases.
The listings did not include cities with less than 10 fatal crashes and 20,000 residents.
Also, those cities that did not have available Census Bureau population estimates were excluded.
1. Victorville
- Fatal accidents per 10,000 residents: 2.6 (About 2.2x the national average)
- Total fatal accidents: 36 (39 fatalities)
2. San Bernardino
- Fatal accidents per 10,000 residents: 2.4 (About 2.0x the national average)
- Total fatal accidents: 53 (57 fatalities)
3. Colton
- Fatal accidents per 10,000 residents: 2.4 (About 2.0x the national average)
- Total fatal accidents: 13 (14 fatalities)
4. Hesperia
- Fatal accidents per 10,000 residents: 1.9 (About 1.6x the national average)
- Total fatal accidents: 19 (21 fatalities)
5. Compton
- Fatal accidents per 10,000 residents: 1.9 (About 1.6x the national average)
- Total fatal accidents: 17 (19 fatalities)
