Major Bakersfield Crash Highway 178 Near Haley Street (March 13)
Traffic Collision on SR 178 in Kern County
Bakersfield, CA (March 13, 2025) – A major injury traffic collision occurred early Thursday morning on eastbound Highway 178, just west of Haley Street.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was alerted to the collision involving two vehicles around 7:25 AM on March 13th.
According to CHP dispatch, a white pickup truck collided with a red sedan, causing the vehicles to veer off the road and end up on an embankment. The truck, which was wrapped around a concrete pole, had one occupant, who was reported to be unconscious. Smoke was also seen emanating from the vehicles at the scene.
Responding units reported that three lanes were shut down to allow for the recovery of the vehicles and to clear debris from the roadway. A front loader was called to assist with cleanup, as mud from the crash had to be removed.
Paramedics were on the scene and transported at least one person with major injuries to a hospital, but there are no further details at this time, the report said.
