Kern County Transit Bus Crash State Route 178, Near 14 Freeway in Inyokern

Major Injury Crash on Isabella Walker Pass Road near Indian Wells

KERN COUNTY, Calif. (April 7, 2025) — A major injury crash involving a car and Kern County Transit bus happened Monday on State Route 178, just west of the 14 Freeway in Inyokern.

The two-vehicle collision occurred on Isabella Walker Pass Road (SR-178) around 7 a.m. on April 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

One of the vehicles reportedly sideswiped the other one on this two-lane highway. The white Kia Optima sedan was reportedly “totaled” in the crash and wound up on the eastbound side of the highway. The 28-foot bus was stopped in eastbound traffic lanes.

Paramedics responded and transported at least one person to a hospital with major injuries, but there are no further details.

Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash on State Route 178 in Inyokern.
