Motorcyclist Dies One Week After Collision in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 8, 2025) – A 70-year-old motorcyclist identified as Leonard Tanguay died March 31st in the hospital one week after a Long Beach traffic accident on Studebaker Road and Atherton Street.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 8:50 p.m. on March 24 at the Long Beach intersection, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The Cerritos man was riding a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Studebaker Road when a driver in a 2011 Hyundai reportedly made a left-hand turn onto Atherton Street.
The driver in the Hyundai turned into the path of the rider who crashed into the vehicle.
The injured motorcyclist remained hospitalized and eventually died on March 31, police said. The victim retired in 2017 from his role as Vice President/Commercial Loan Officer for Pacific Western Bank. Motorcycling was one of his many interests including technology, backpacking, amateur radio, and independent study of philosophy and theology, according to a biography posted online.
Investigators are working on the case and do not suspect speed, impaired driving, and or distracted driving were contributing factors.
