Woman Killed | DUI Suspect Arrested After Crash on Interstate 8 Freeway

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 17, 2025) — A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred Thursday morning on the eastbound Interstate 8 Freeway, just east of College Avenue in San Diego.

The traffic accident occurred around 2:51 a.m. on April 17th, just east of San Diego State University, according to the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: Woman killed in I-8 Crash Identified

A young man driving a black SUV was traveling the wrong way on the eastbound side of I-8 before he crashed into the victim’s Mini Cooper.

The SUV reportedly went off the side of the roadway and then flipped backwards.

Paramedics responded; however, a woman in her 60s driving a Mini Cooper became trapped in her car and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

The unidentified 20-year-old man driving the SUV survived the collision, but police arrested him at the hospital on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, authorities said.

Tow trucks removed both vehicles, while investigators continue to work on the case.
