Minor Injury Collision Causes Major Backup on Westbound I-80
West Sacramento, CA (April 17, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash on the westbound Interstate 80 near the Causeway caused significant traffic delays Thursday morning and minor injuries in West Sacramento.
The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. on April 17th and initially involved a gray SUV and a gray 4-door sedan. As traffic slowed, additional collisions were reported to CHP dispatchers with reports of at least four vehicles, including a white Honda HR-V, a red Honda Civic, a blue Toyota sedan, and a white Volkswagen Jetta.
At least one vehicle was left undrivable, and lanes one and two were blocked for a time as emergency responders and tow services worked the scene. Fire crews and CHP officers had difficulty accessing the site due to heavy traffic, which backed up quickly during the morning commute.
By 8:35 a.m., the CHP log confirmed the crash involved at least one minor injury and noted there was heavy on westbound I-80. The Volkswagen and Prius were towed from the scene to Mace Boulevard and Chiles Road.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the sequence of collisions. Drivers are reminded to maintain safe following distances and remain alert, especially during peak traffic hours.
