DUI Suspect Arrested After Deadly Crash on Interstate 8 Freeway
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 18, 2025) — Greysi Olimpia Rivas, 66, of El Cajon, died in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver Thursday morning on the eastbound Interstate 8 Freeway, just east of College Avenue in San Diego.
The San Diego Medical Examiner identified the woman on its website.
The traffic accident occurred around 2:51 a.m. on April 17th, just east of San Diego State University, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A young man driving a black BMW SUV was traveling the wrong way on the eastbound side of I-8 before he crashed into the woman’s Mini Cooper.
The SUV reportedly went off the side of the roadway and then flipped backwards.
Paramedics responded; however, Greysi Olimpia Rivas became trapped in her car and died at the scene.
The unidentified 20-year-old man driving the SUV survived the collision, but police arrested him at the hospital on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, authorities said.
Tow trucks removed both vehicles, while investigators continue to work on the case.
