Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision on Freeway in El Monte
El Monte, CA (May 7, 2025) — A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred early Wednesday morning on the northbound I-605 at Valley Boulevard, underneath the freeway overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash, reported around 5:00 a.m. on May 7th, involved a white Ford Ranger pickup truck and a white Nissan sedan, the report said. Initial CHP logs indicate the vehicles were blocking the roadway.
Meanwhile, emergency crews were dispatched shortly after, and the incident was upgraded to a fatal collision.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
A tow truck was initially requested but later cancelled as responders worked to secure the scene. A representative from a towing company at the site placed flares to warn other drivers, while CHP units managed traffic control and began investigating the cause of the crash.
The collision prompted delays in the area during the early morning commute as the northbound lanes near Valley Boulevard remained partially blocked.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
