Major Injury Crash Involving Semi Truck Shuts Down North Rancho Drive
Bakersfield, CA – May 9, 2025 — A major crash in Arvin involving a semi-truck and a black sedan caused serious injuries early Friday morning at North Rancho Drive and David Road in Kern County.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash occurred around 5:55 a.m. on May 9th, when a sedan collided with a semi-truck, causing the semi’s cab to overturn. The load, which consisted of plastic bins, spilled across the roadway, creating additional hazards and prompting a traffic advisory.
Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene, where firefighters worked to extricate two individuals trapped inside their vehicles. A medical helicopter was requested and landed near the scene at approximately 6:29 a.m., requiring a full closure of northbound Rancho Drive just south of the incident.
CHP officially reclassified the crash as a major injury collision shortly after 7:00 a.m. Castro Towing and Golden Empire towing services were dispatched to handle removal of the semi and its trailer, with recovery efforts ongoing throughout the morning.
All lanes of Rancho Drive were blocked for several hours due to the severity of the crash and cleanup operations.
The identities and conditions of the injured parties have not been released at this time. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the collision, including whether driver error, mechanical failure, or road conditions played a role.
