Man on Scooter Dies from Injuries Suffered in Long Beach Crash

LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 9, 2025) – A man riding an electric scooter died Saturday five days after he was struck by a car on Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach.

The man died in a hospital due to major injuries after he was struck by a car around 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29th in the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue, near Artesia Boulevard.

The Long Beach Police Department is heading up the investigation into what happened.

They determined a 19-year-old Long Beach resident driving a 2019 Honda Accord was traveling north on Atlantic Avenue when they failed to stop for a red light.

The motorist struck the victim who was riding the scooter in a marked crosswalk, police said.

Paramedics rushed the injured Long Beach man to a hospital in critical condition, but he later died on Saturday, May 3rd. His name has not been released.

Meanwhile, the driver Accord driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

Detectives are working on the case and are trying to determine whether speed may have been a factor. There were no immediate arrests made.
