Motorcycle Accident at Explorer Road and Avocado Boulevard in San Diego

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (May 13, 2025) — A motorcycle rider was killed and his passenger injured Sunday night in a traffic accident involving an SUV on Explorer Road in the Casa de Oro-Mount Helix area in East County.

SUV and Motorcycle Crash on Avocado Boulevard

The two-vehicle collision happened around 8 p.m. on May 11th at Avocado Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 22-year-old El Cajon man was riding a Ducati motorcycle northbound on Avocado when a southbound Ford Explorer turned east onto Explorer Road. The two vehicles crashed head-on and the young man was thrown off the bike, the CHP said.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident in East County

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, but his 20-year-old female passenger was also ejected and survived with major injuries.

Meanwhile, the 40-year-old La Mesa man driving the Ford sustained minor injuries.

Paramedics transported the injured El Cajon woman and the La Mesa man to a hospital for further treatment.

Investigators are working to determine liability for the crash and whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
